Using CMISGo without Desktop@UCL or going onto campus

A step-by-step guide for society presidents and committee leads. CMISGo, UCL's room-booking system, only answers from inside the UCL network — but you don't need a Desktop@UCL machine or a trip to campus to get there. The UCL VPN puts your own laptop on the network.

Before you start

Step 1

Download and install Cisco Secure Client (AnyConnect)

  1. Go to the UCL VPN service page.
  2. Select the installer for your operating system — macOS, or Windows 10/11.
  3. On macOS, open the .dmg / package installer. If macOS blocks it, go to System Settings › Privacy & Security and allow the system extension.
  4. On Windows, run the setup .exe and step through the defaults.
Step 2

Connect to the UCL network

  1. Open Cisco Secure Client from Applications (macOS) or the Start Menu (Windows).
  2. In the connection box, type:
VPN address
vpn.ucl.ac.uk

If that errors, or the web login fails to load, use this instead:

Fallback address
vpn.ucl.ac.uk/Prelogin
  1. Click Connect.
  2. Log in with your full UCL email (<userid>@ucl.ac.uk) and your UCL password.
  3. Approve the Microsoft Authenticator push on your phone.
  4. When the padlock turns green with a checkmark, you're on the internal UCL network.
Step 3

Open CMISGo and book rooms

  1. With the VPN still connected, open your browser and go to:
CMISGo
https://roombooking-current.ucl.ac.uk
  1. Complete UCL single sign-on. If you're already signed in to Microsoft 365 in that browser, it signs you in automatically.
