Join us at UCL East Community Cinema for a rare screening of Go Fish , the groundbreaking 1994 romantic comedy directed by The L Word's Rose Troche. Max hasn't had a date in ten months. Enter Ely, an older, free-spirited woman who isn't remotely her type. What follows is a charming and refreshingly honest exploration of dating, friendship and lesbian life in 1990s Chicago. Shot in black and white on a shoestring budget, Go Fish draws on Chicago's real lesbian community, capturing the humour, awkwardness and everyday experiences of its characters. From disastrous first dates to late-night phone calls and lively dinner parties, the film offers an intimate portrait of love, friendship and community. Following its debut at Sundance in 1994, Go Fish became a landmark of independent queer cinema. More than 30 years later, it remains a lesbian classic worth discovering or revisiting.
