The second of this term’s Inside Industry talks. Ordering custom DNA usually means waiting weeks while a synthesis company makes it and posts it back. Zayd Lakhi is building a machine that does it on the bench instead. He is founder and CEO of AmpliSynth, whose benchtop DNA printer is designed to give researchers synthetic genes on demand rather than on a lead time. Zayd is on this year’s Forbes 30 Under 30 Europe list for Science & Healthcare, and was a scientist at Imperial College London before founding the company. The talk covers what it takes to turn a piece of lab hardware into a company, and what the route from research into founding actually looks like. This one is for members only.
