The policy
What would you like the Union to do?
Lobby for a clear policy on the rights, duties and responsibilities of research students with regards to (lab) supervision of UG and PGT students.
Why would you like to do this?
Many students are not aware of their rights and their responsibilities with regards to supervising UG and PGT students. In several instances, students were told to supervise students without adequate compensation. In addition, these duties can add significantly to the already heavy workload of research students and thus create problems for their studies. Many students feel that it could jeopardise the relationship with their supervisor if they refuse requests. A clarification and set guidelines in this regard are much needed.
How will this affect students?
Students will have more clarity with regards to their duties and supervisors will be less likely to propose unpaid or unwanted supervision.

AdvisoryYour stance is a student-opinion signal, not a vote. Union policy is passed by elected reps at the zones and Union Executive; the only binding all-student vote is a referendum.
